Science Communication

  • Currently supporting multi-disciplinary study in creating communications that are accessible for outsiders and across disciplines.

Transition to 501(c)(3)

  • Supported board of all-volunteer organization in its transition from an advisory/volunteer role to working/governance board.

  • Facilitated meetings that deepened board members’ shared vision and mission.

  • Developed committee structure to best support the work and transition.

  • Created and curated templates and materials to guide next steps in organizational development.

Internal Team-Building

  • Facilitated organization’s first-ever staff retreat for 35 people, focusing on team-building.

  • Worked with senior staff to identify issues for follow-up action by staff and through facilitated workshops.

Representative Projects

Community-Managed Open Spaces

  • Collaborated with multiple stakeholders to create Baltimore City’s process to transfer land in community use to land trusts for $1 per lot.

  • Seventeen green spaces have been preserved throughout Baltimore City through this process.

Forest Patches

  • Worked with communities, academics, and city, state, and federal governments to establish urban forest patches as a category of ecosystem that is worthy of protection and study.

  • Results include legislation, protection of 2 forest patches in Baltimore City, peer learning community, and academic studies.

Project Management

  • Provided guidance and project management to prevent homes from being lost to tax sale.

  • Raised $26K and helped 26 homeowners in collaboration with neighborhood activists and issue experts.

Seminar/Speaker Series

  • Created framework based on the four lements (earth, water, air, fire) to facilitate year-long high school seminar on climate change and how Baltimore is responding.

  • Identified and scheduled scientists and activists for 10 class sessions, with a focus on speakers whose age and background made them relatable to the students.

Proposal Building

  • A quick engagement to synthesize ongoing work and describe proposed expansion, focused on developing language that is compelling to funders and other stakeholders.

Fundraising Support

  • Worked with founders of innovative educational program to develop external and internal language, and to clarify thinking in several key areas. This work secured $250K funding from Baltimore City Public Schools.

  • Developed templates to support grant-writing.
